![]() It was inconsistent and there's no excuse, especially since it's one of the more expensive horror movies recently made with it's $10 million budget.Ĭhucky's design is still fucking atrocious. It looked pretty bad at times while good in others. I was very against a remake as it sounded awful in everyway (and it seem pointless with the original series still going), but this turned out way better than it had any right to be.Įffects (both CGI and practical) were off in several places. I know they have their fans, but I never really got into the later sequels, so this is probably my number 2 Child's Play movie. ![]() Overall I had a lot of fun with this and I think it's a worthy followup to the original, if not quite as good and very different. There's a lot of little nitpicky points that wouldn't bother me on their own, but because there's a lot of them I hold it against the movie a bit. And I get that voodoo panic isn't really a thing anymore, but I'm just fundamentally more interested in a movie about a serial killer implanting is soul into a doll than I am in a movie about tech gone wrong. And beyond that, I thought the way the movie tried to lampshade that with the "productive sweet sixteen" joke just made it more distracting. What I didn't like: I'm not ready for Aubrey Plaza to be playing mom roles. It has some great shots, especially during the Zed-mart rampage at the end. It was a little over the top, but I actually liked how awful his character was, it really made me root for Chucky. The kills were pretty good, with Shane's death being an obvious high point. I liked the way Chucky was portrayed as at first just trying to help before slipping into something worse. It's easy for bad teen acting to ruin a movie like this, but it didn't. What I liked: I liked Aubrey Plaza and Bryan Tyree Henry a lot, and I thought all the child actors did a solid job. I had just watched the original a few days earlier, and I don't think this is as good as the original, but I had a lot of fun with it. I know I'm a couple weeks late to this thread but I just got around to seeing this. Why would we root for anybody else if nobody has any character development or any good motives for us to care? I honestly was bored throughout good chunks of this movie. With Chucky being the weakest character here and usually the highlight of all the Child's Play movies, this is a serious problem. Was it supposed to be serious or a Comedy? I don't know, but if it was supposed to be funny I wasn't really laughing all that much. It's a shame because the concept of technology for the reboot had potential, but the execution was so piss-poor and lackluster it wasn't really all that entertaining to watch in the long run at all.Īnother problem I had with this new Child's Play was its tone. The one-liners and dialogue was weak and stupid, the finale was also ridiculous and felt like they ran out of money trying to build up to something bigger than what it actually was. ![]() Nobody seems to work out the obvious that Chucky is evil and things just happen because they need to happen for no reason I guess? What about the kills? There's a few gory deaths but nothing really stood out as all that memorable honestly. Nothing made any sense and it really felt like different scripts stitched together to make a feature length movie. The other friends joining in also dragged things down with bad performances. I thought the mother character was awful in this one and just plain annoying, as well as her boyfriend. As for the other characters, does anybody really care? The Andy "kid" here has nothing going for him and he's way too old to care about wanting a doll. Why did they change the look of Chucky too? Only thing going for him is Mark Hamill's voice performance, but that's it. He's just a basic robot who follows orders or tries to pretend to be good, but falls flat on its face. What the hell have they done with Child's Play? This reboot was so lame! Chucky is now a really boring doll with no wit or personality to him.
